The 22-year-old Mercantile rower gained the nod after being invited to the national trials following an impressive outing at the national championships in March.
Originally from Mansfield, Hunt attended boarding school at Ballarat Grammar where he was a part of the boys firsts crews in 2011 and 2012 which claimed the Head of the Lake trophy.
After a year away from the sport over the 2012/12 season Hunt was approached to get back in the boat, and has since dedicated himself towards gaining national selection.
“I said I was only going to row if I could do it properly,” Hunt said. “For the last two years I’ve been telling myself this is what I’m going to do.”
The squad is currently training in Melbourne ahead of their first regatta in Italy in August leading into the world championships.
