The Mi Sound competition is the first new discipline to be added to the performance sections at the RSSS for 17 years. Rather than concentrating on technical virtuosity and mastery, Mi Sound will focus on creativity, individuality and an ability to engage the audience.
Sheree Chevalier is a board director at the RSSS. She and David Santamaria, a music production trainer for VET studies and education manager for the College of Sound and Music Production in Melbourne, have worked together to develop the new Mi Sound discipline in conjunction with the Geelong training organisation Oxygen College.
“It’s inspired by the VCE/VET music exam. Basically a minimum of three songs and up to 20 minutes’ performance time,” Sheree said.
Entries for Mi Sound are due by May 13. More information at the Royal South Street performance website.
