Detectives from the Southern Metropolitan Regional Crime Team - formally known as Taskforce Tense - have charged two of the teens with theft of a motor vehicle, while another was charged with a range of offences including assault with a weapon.

The taskforce was set up in November of last year following a string of violent home invasions, aggravated burglaries and carjackings.

Since then, investigators have arrested 70 people, some of whom police believe have links to the Apex gang.

Last week, police said there had been a spike in car-related crime as criminals were targeting luxury vehicles in Melbourne's affluent suburbs.

On Monday, police arrested a 17-year-old Pakenham boy following a pursuit through the south-eastern suburbs, which ended at Dandenong Railway Station about 5.40pm.

He was charged with aggravated burglary in relation to two violent home invasions in East Brighton and Ormond on the night of Saturday, April 23.

Detectives have already charged another three young men over the incidents with a range of offences including assault, aggravated burglary, theft of a motor vehicle and possessing proceeds of crime.

Victoria Police spokeswoman Natalie Webster said in addition to aggravated burglary, the Pakenham boy was also charged with theft of a motor vehicle, assault with a weapon, evading police, speeding and conduct endangering life.

The boy was expected to face a children's court on Tuesday.

On Sunday, police arrested and charged two other men over an aggravated burglary in Berwick on Saturday night.

The pair - a 16-year-old Dandenong boy and an 18-year-old man from Hampton Park - are accused of breaking into a house on Packard Street in Berwick and stealing a car.

Police caught up with the two boys in Hampton Park about 2.30am on Sunday morning, and they were arrested after allegedly fleeing from the stolen motor vehicle.

The 16-year-old was charged with theft of a motor vehicle and remanded to appear at a children's court at a later date.

The older man was also charged with theft of motor vehicle. But Victoria Police spokeswoman Natalie Webster said he was further charged with assault and attempted theft relating to an incident in Noble Park on January 1.

It is not clear if the two incidents are related or if the accused perpetrators have any link to the Apex gang, a group made up of up to 150 members, many of whom are under the age of 18.

Of the 70 arrests made by Taskforce Tense, Assistant Commission Bob Hill last week said only 26 were connected with the gang.

Named after the street in Dandenong where its founding members come from, Apex was formed more than 18 months ago.

The gang was involved in the riots in the CBD during Moomba Festival.
