Shane Skontra was at the helm as coach.
Skontra, who is coaching Maryborough in the Bendigo league, will be among officials and players travelling from as far afield as Western Australia, Queensland and South Australia from the premiership year to attend the celebration.
The Kangaroos defeated Hepburn in the grand final – 23.13 (151) to 8.16 (64)
Club president Chris Bourke said the premiership was a long time coming – 24 years after Waubra’s previous flag.
“We are calling on all supporters, players, officials and members to attend the day and night when we will share a lot of great memories.”
Waubra is home to Daylesford in round 13 on that day.
The Kangaroos have been in the CHFL since 1979 – the year the competition was in a merger of the Clunes and Ballarat-Bacchus Marsh leagues.
Waubra has gone to win the 2011 premiership, which was also coached by Skontra.
WOMEN IN FOCUS IN BFNL
THE Ballarat Football Netball League community is rallying behind Support4Cancer.
The Ballarat-based not-for-profit organisation, founded by breast cancer survivor Colleen Thompson, has been chosen as the BFL’s “Women in Football” round charity.
Each year the Ballarat league forms a partnership to help raise money and awareness of a cause in the “Women in Football” round.
The BFNL has also linked up with National Breast Cancer Foundation pink ribbon ambassadors Mark Nunn and Ben Halsall and their real estate firm Buxton, which is a gold partner of the foundation.
“We all know someone who’s been affected by breast cancer,” Nunn said.
“It’s a fantastic cause, and hopefully we can do our little bit for it as it all adds up.”
Thompson has had a long association with the BFNL, being a Ballarat Swans netball premiership player on 2008.
She said Support4Cancer supported patients going through a cancer journey,
“We support them with one-on-one support.
“We make sure the patients are linked to an organization that can support them with medical information if they require it.
“All funding raised goes to supporting patients and their families,” she said.
Collection tins will be placed at canteens and with gatekeepers for the fundraising effort at each senior venue this weekend.
YOUTH GIRLS SEASON TO START
THE long wait for BFL youth girls footballers is almost over.
Their season finally gets underway on Sunday.
The competition has expanded to 13 teams, with Creswick, Melton Centrals, North Ballarat joining, while Ballarat Swans have dropped out.
Sunday's draw: Redan v Creswick, MCDFNL v North Ballarat, Darley v Gisborne, Sebastopol v East Point (previously known as Golden Point), Bacchus Marsh v Melton Centrals, Lake Wendouree v Ararat, Riddells Creek bye
BFL JUNIOR FIXTURE CHANGE
THE BFNL has made a junior football fixture change.
The Redan and East Point games which were scheduled for the Western on Saturday will now be played at the Eastern Oval.
The Western Oval is yet to reach the minimal standard for match play.
East Point and Redan will have their round 15 games reversed, with them now to be played at the Western Oval on Sunday, August 7.
NEED TO KEEP BOUNDARY LINE CLEAR
IT’S time for the BFL to stop players and various club officials from encroaching too close to the boundary line in front of their interchange boxes.
A marked area – that’s required to keep them back from the playing area.
As well as getting a little too close to the action, having people in this area is also a hindrance for boundary umpires endeavouring to make their way around the ground at pace.
That last thing anyone wants is anyone being injured in a collision.
REDAN 2006 PREMIERSHIP REUNION
Football reunions have never been more popular.
Redan is next cab off the rank. The Lions are having a 2006 premiership at the City Oval on Sunday.
