Instead of buying a bunch of flowers, the cancer survivors group promotes purchasing a floral tile on Ballarat Regional Integrated Cancer Centre’s Wall of Flowers. Each tile helps support services and facilities for patients across the Grampians region at BRICC.
Pink Phoenix host major fundraising events each year for women in the region who are diagnosed with breast cancer. The group donates any portion left over to different charity causes, like the Otis Foundation which offers a retreat in Bendigo for families affected by breast cancer. This extra fundraising includes a pink sun orchid tile on BRICC’s Wall of Flowers.
Phoenix member Di Kenwrick said the flower was a lovely tribute.
Ballarat Health Services Foundation and fundraising director Geoff Millar said the wall had been a feature of BRICC since the centre opened, almost three years ago, and there was still plenty of space to recognise a loved one or show support.
Each of the 168 tile blocks showcases a single flower. There are six flower species to choose – a daisy, pink sun orchid, red parrot pea, fringe lily, bent goodenia and blue squill – all are indigenous to the Grampians region.
Lasting flower tiles are available for $2000 and can be inscribed with the names of individuals, family, businesses or groups
BRICC offers radiation therapy, chemotherapy and a specialised pharmacy for most cancer treatment. For information on the Wall of Flowers, visit BRICC in person or online at https://bricc.bhs.org.au
