As the North Melbourne veteran gears up to play his 300th fixture against St Kilda on Sunday, parents Trevor and Sue looked back on a remarkable career which has spanned 16 years.
And while the pair’s reserved seats on the second level of Docklands Stadium have been the location of many a tense afternoon of football, for one fan there’s still only one player on the field that matters. “I watch the game and Sue watches Drew,” Trevor chuckled.
When the duo will head down on Sunday afternoon they will be joined by a swathe of Ballarat supporters from throughout the 33-year-old’s career which began on the wing for the Ballarat Swans in under-12’s.
And while Trevor was cautious to get ahead of himself, an undefeated start to the season is shaping 2016 as Petrie’s best chance yet of holding football’s holy grail aloft come October.
