HOCKEY Ballarat’s Summer of Hockey kicks off this week at the Ballarat Hockey Centre with the Hook in2 Hockey clinic for kids, and the Twilight Social Hockey Series, later this month.
Hockey Ballarat president Michael Poulton said the focus was on having a go and learning the basics.
“There has been an increase in schools learning hockey as part of their physical education since the London Olympics, which is great,” Poulton said.
“Our aim is to provide this opportunity to as many kids as possible.”
The Hook in2 Hockey clinic is the official Hockey Australia junior hockey program encouraging children of all skills levels to get involved in the game.
Junior co-ordinator for Hockey Ballarat Mitch Ryan said he was excited to have nearly 70 registrations so far.
“The recent hockey roadshows involving Victoria Premier League players visiting local schools and running basic sessions has been a real boost,” he said.
The clinics will run over seven weeks and registration is $40 per child.
The clinics will take place from 6pm to 7.30pm on Fridays, starting tomorrow .
The annual Twilight Social Hockey Series of 5-, 6- and 7-a-side matches for junior and senior newcomers and those looking for a return to the game at a slower pace will start on October 22, and will run for six weeks.
