A call has gone out to identify models featured in the work of top Australian fashion photographer Henry Talbot, whose portfolio is on show at the National Gallery of Victoria.
In the 1960s, Talbot was one of Australia's most admired and in-demand commercial snappers.
He took fabulous shots at places as diverse as the the Treasury Gardens, the Altona petrochemical plant, airports and stables.
His shots appeared in Vogue and Vanity Fair and clients ranged from General Motors to Sportscraft and the Australian Wool Board.
In 1983, 11 years after he closed his studio, Talbot donated more than 35,000 images to the gallery.
More than 80 of his photographs are on display until August at NGV Australia at Federation Square in the exhibition Henry Talbot: 1960s Fashion Photographer.
In some shots, the names of the models such as Maggie Tabberer and Maggi Eckardt, are provided in the captions.
However in many of the photos, the models aren't identified, and that's where the NGV hopes the public can help.
NGV senior curator of photography Susan van Wyk said if people aren't able to come to the exhibition, they can view the images online in an ebook at www.ngv.vic.gov.au/exhibition/henry-talbot/

She is particularly interested in a Papua New Guinea shoot featuring local people.
"I think they're fantastic images and we know very little about them. I'm sure there would be some great anecdotal information. We don't even know who the client was that he was photographing for. Anything like that would be fantastic from our point of view."
Other shots are at an airport, apparently with flight staff as extras; a model holding an umbrella in a rainy Treasury Gardens; and a 1971 shot of a young couple wearing Wrangler denim next to a railway line.
Ms van Wyk said it was time that Talbot, who died in 1999, was recognised and celebrated.
A Jew born as Heinz Tichauer in Germany, Talbot fled persecution to London in 1939, only to be detained as a German alien, shipped to Australia on the ship Dunera and interned in outback Hay, in New South Wales.
While working for the Australian army in WWII, near Albury, he befriended a fellow German refugee, Helmut Newton, and in 1956 they set up a Melbourne photographic studio together.
After Newton left Australia in 1961 to find fame and fortune overseas, Talbot worked prolifically in Melbourne until 1972.
"He was a really major figure in the 1960s in Australia, and I think to date his work as a fashion photographer hasn't received the kind of recognition it deserves," Ms van Wyk said.
