The Damascus College year 10 student was recently presented with her Australian Scout Medallion – the highest honour awarded in the scouting movement.
To achieve the award, Castley had to organise and take part in basic first aid, camp craft skills, navigation, 50 nights of camping and a three day hike from Mt Alexander, near Castlemaine, to Buninyong.
She also had to do 50 nights camping and pass three levels of emergencies badges, where she did camp craft, citizenship and had to organise a visit to an emergency service, choosing the CFA where he father volunteers.
Castley, who was also troop leader, said attending scouts was always the highlight of her week.
“It’s the people I’ve met and the fun I’ve had,” she said.
The 15-year-old joined the scouts in grade six with her close friends and has now moved on to the Venturers.
