It may be in the middle of a federal election but that won't stop Sydney's DJ Albo playing a very Melbourne set at the Corner Hotel less than a fortnight from the July 2 poll.

And it is not a political fundraiser for the Labor Party.

Instead DJ Albo – aka the shadow minister for Infrastructure and Transport Anthony Albanese – will be spinning tunes on June 22 to raise funds for Reclink ahead of the Community Cup on June 26 at Elsternwick Park.

The Labor frontbencher and DJ has promised a set to appeal to locals, with bands hailing from, and songs about the Victorian capital.

A proud Sydneysider, DJ Albo says Melbourne has a fantastic musical history of songwriters and a unique sound.

"Paul Kelly, Dan Sultan, I think Courtney Barnett has a very Melbourne sound," the frontbench DJ said.

And while his set list is not finalised, he did promise Paul Kelly's From St Kilda to Kings Cross, Dan Sultan's Old Fitzroy, Weddings Parties Anything's Under the Clocks and Courtney Barnett's Nobody really cares if you don't go to the party.

"It's an awesome song. And it's great to dance to," DJ Albo said.

Nick Cave and Hunters and Collectors will also get a spin.

Joining him on stage will be Tim Rogers' band The Draught Dodgers, and DJ Mermaid.

On Saturday, Mr Albanese will pledge that an elected Labor government would restore $2.4 million of funding for Reclink over the next four years.

Reclink provides and promotes sports and art programs for the disadvantaged but had its annual $600,000 of federal funding cut in the 2014 budget.

The Community Cup between the Megahertz and Rockdogs has became a cult fixture on Melbourne's footy calendar and since the first game in 1993, has gone national.

Mr Albanese has played in the Sydney version, and will do so again on August 14 at Henson Park in the 5th annual clash between the Walers and the Sailors.

Labor says it is restoring funding because Reclink filled a gap in the social welfare system by engaging with the disadvantaged, which reduces pressure on Commonwealth spending.

And while Mr Albanese faces a Greens push to unseat him in his inner-Sydney seat of Grayndler, he will be a regular visitor to Melbourne to help campaign, including in Batman where fellow frontbencher David Feeney is facing a battle from the Greens' Alex Bhathal.
