The Ballarat Botanikids group held a family day for locals on Sunday in conjunction with the Friends of the Ballarat Botanical Gardens.
The complex was a hive of activity, with guided tours and nursery sales also on show as part of an Australia and New Zealand-wide initiative to open botanical gardens to the public.
Friends of the Ballarat Botanical Gardens representative and educating group convener Julie Bradby said it’s important to introduce youngsters with nature.
“We’re responsible for encouraging children and young families into the garden,” Ms Bradby said.
“It’s nice to see the gardens alive on Sunday.
“(Most) state or capital city gardens opened (as part of the day), but we decided to highlight our lovely gardens.
“It’s really important to get kids out in the fresh air (and) interacting with nature and natural materials.”
