Ballarat Library hosted a number of events for National Reconciliation Week on Monday, including an Indigenous workshop and storytelling for children.
Wadawurrung woman Tammy Gilson showed students from Dana Street Primary School how ochre painting on male and female faces was done in her tradition.
City of Ballarat Mayor Des Hudson said it was important for children to learn about Indigenous culture while they were young.
“We have a very rich culture, the culture of Australia, and it’s great to share this with young people,” he said.
“I think the storytelling and the Dreamtime stories is something I’ve always found fascinating. To celebrate through storytelling is very important.”
National Reconciliation Week activities will continue this week at Federation University and Sovereign Hill.
