Polkinghorne said the past 18 months, including good results in major tournaments, had really lifted the Australian women’s soccer team profile. She welcome talks with Victorian Minister for Women Fiona Richardson in Ballarat on Tuesday, on gender equality in sport.
“A large part of it is getting kids involved, to know football is fun,” Polkinghorne said. “Girls and boys can play the game and it’s a good way to have fun.”
Ms Richardson said it was important to recognise and promote the Matildas’ success, professionalism and dedication to their game to help spark community health and social change.
