Well-known storyteller Jan Wositzky will perform next week at Buninyong Brewery.
He will bring to life Bilarni, the story of Bill Harney, whose was a WWI veteran who became part of Indigenous culture in the 1950s.
Wositzky is a yarn-spinner, musician and writer who is known for his one-man shows that use real stories and characters to bring Australian history to life.
The show is scripted from Bill Harney’s books, radio broadcasts and personal papers and peppered with Wositzky’s own adventures, telling the story of a Northern Territory bushman who returned from the war to live among Aboriginal people, becoming known as the “custodian of the rock” – or Uluru.
Wositzky is a founder of the Bushwackers Band and has written books including Born Under the Paperbark Tree. He has also produced television documentaries including Buwarrala Akarriya: Journey East and Aeroplane Dance.
He also helped devised the Wominjeka Ceremony with the Dja Dja Wurrung people of central Victoria for the Castlemaine State Festival.
