BOBBY Hind fired as North Ballarat opened the Ballarat Cricket Association club firsts season in style on Saturday.
The captain-coach performed with both bat and ball as the Roosters claimed victory over Golden Point in a modified one-day clash at Sparrow Ground.
Hind’s important 74 at the top of the order helped North Ballarat reach a competitive 4/175 at the compulsory closure of innings, before his 3/24 restricted the Pointies to 142.
The man-of-the-match performance was backed-up by solid contributions through the top order for the Roosters, with young Matthew Spratling (20), Scott Boadle (18), Leigh Lorenzen (23 not out) and 100-gamer Scott Wright (29 not out) all chipping in with important knocks.
Opening bowler Jason Crosbie was also destructive with the new ball, claiming 3/28 from his nine overs.
Dwayne Hiscock (35) tried hard for the Pointies with the bat, but regular wickets ended any meaningful partnerships throughout the innings.
Other than captain Josh White (23) and brother Daniel (23), there were no real stars for Golden Point.
Saturday’s win is a great start for the Roosters, which managed just two victories in a disappointing 2011/12 campaign.
They now set their sights on Darley this weekend, while Golden Point can look to bounce back to form when it takes on Coronet City.
