Ballarat East Community Men's shed to participate in Veteran's Health Week

BALLARAT East Community Men’s Shed is throwing open its doors for Veteran’s Health Week and the end of the month.

For the first time, the Eureka Street outlet will play its part in the health week when it holds a free lunch and tour for all veterans.

Held between October 22 and 28, Veteran’s Health Week provides an opportunity for veterans, war widows, widowers, current and ex-Australian Defence Force members and their families to participate, connect and influence their own health and wellbeing, as well as those of their friends.

In Ballarat there will be a number of activities held throughout the week.

Currently four returned servicemen are members of the men’s shed - two from World War II and two from Vietnam. Denis Costigan, a Vietnam veteran, encouraged  people to come along and experience “a real sense of camaraderie”.

“A lot of ex-servicemen are still at a bit of a loss and struggling with their lives. They could really benefit from coming along,” ,” Mr Costigan said.

The event will be held on Thursday, October 25 at the Ballarat East Community Men’s Shed between 10.30am and 2.30pm, and  will include a free lunch and tour of the shed.

Call Doug Jenkins on 5332 3309 by October 21 to RSVP.
