BLOC Music Theatre is hosting auditions this weekend for its next production – The Drowsy Chaperone.
Fresh from their successful season of Mary Poppins, BLOC is now looking for the stars who will bring the little-known but hilarious Broadway musical to life.
The show is described as a masterful “meta-musical” – theatre that comments on itself, and has won five Tony Awards.
Director Carly Macdonald said October was usually BLOC’s junior production season, but this year would be a little different, expanding to an open age show.
Ms Macdonald said it was a trial to provide a training opportunity and possibly capture a new audience with wonderful shows that were not necessarily major productions. BLOC will offer a junior season again in 2017.
Ms Macdonald said The Drowsy Chaperone would also provide an opportunity for theatre regulars to undertake new off-stage roles as part of the creative team.
Auditions will be held June 25 and 26 at the BLOC Hall, 608 Peel Street North, Black Hill. The show will be staged at the 1870 Founders Theatre in Mt Helen, November 4 to 6.
