Career criminal Christopher Binse must spend at least another decade in prison after failing in his bid to have a long jail term cut.

Binse, known as "Badness" and notorious for a history of armed robberies and for a 44-hour siege at his Keilor East home, is currently serving an 18-year jail term that was imposed two years ago for offending in the first half of 2012, which included robbing two Armaguard officers of $235,000 and the siege, during which he fired shots at an armed police vehicle.
Binse last month appealed against the sentence imposed in 2014 and argued it was manifestly excessive given his worsening mental health.
The 47-year-old has spent about 30 of the past 33 years in some form of custody, including a stint in Pentridge's H Division as a teenager.
But the Court of Appeal on Wednesday dismissed the appeal and said Supreme Court Justice Terry Forrest was correct in classing the armed robbery at Laverton - in which Binse pointed a shotgun at the guards and demanded the bag of cash - a very serious example of that type of offence.
Justice Forrest ordered Binse serve at least 14 years and two months before he was eligible for parole. He has been in custody following his arrest after the siege.
The appeals court judges said they did not accept Justice Forrest "overweighted" the seriousness of the armed robbery.
"The armed robbery itself was in the worst category. The offender had an extensive prior history of both armed robbery and firearm offences," they said.
On March 19, 2012, Binse waited in hiding outside the Westside Tavern in Laverton and climbed a ladder behind a wooden fence to catch the guards by surprise.
Two months later, he pointed a gun at a police officer in the Niddrie La Porchetta pizzeria and fled to his home.
The following day, on May 21, 2012, he barricaded himself in and kept police at bay for almost two full days, until they fired tear gas canisters into the house and he came outside and was arrested.
Also in 2012, police found a pistol with a silencer in a car Binse had abandoned, and an arsenal of firearms in a shipping container he had rented.
Binse is also awaiting sentence for a string of hold-ups between 1988 and 1991, which netted him about $390,000.
