The Victorian Calisthenics Elite Team, which includes three Ballarat girls, is heading to Los Angeles next month to showcase their talents to America.
They’re even going to perform at Disneyland on American Independence Day.
But the team is hoping for something even better – they want to star on Ellen – and have made a video in the hopes of catching the megastar’s attention.
The video, featuring Ballarat’s Zoe Gibson, Danielle Haase and Meg Brooks, shows the girls pulling off some amazing calisthenics moves while wearing masks of Ellen’s face.
Within a matter of days, the video went viral on social media, reaching more than 126,000 people across 45 countries.
The video has received more than 13,000 likes, 1180 shares and been viewed by more than 45,000 people.
Already, the video looks like it’s working – it’s been picked up by ellentube – Ellen’s unique YouTube channel.
The three Ballarat girls – from Jayde Calisthenics and Sovereign Calisthenics – have been selected for the state elite team out of a pool of 140 contenders and travel into Melbourne every Sunday for practice.
Meg, 14, said she was hugely excited about travelling to Los Angeles and showing the Americans what Aussie calisthenics was all about.
“I’ve never been so it’s really exciting,” she said.
“The style of calisthenics we do isn’t in America and they haven’t seen what we do before, and I think it would be good to show America what it’s all about.
“I just love the atmosphere of performing on stage and doing everything I love – dancing with my friends.”
CEO of Calisthenics Victoria Matthew Brown said the team was hoping to appear on the show to reach new audiences and showcase a uniquely Australian sport.
“Ellen is a superb supporter of dance performance and is always looking for new innovative types of dance to preview on her show,” he said.
Calisthenics, hugely popular in Ballarat’s Royal South Street eisteddfods, combines dance, gymnastics, singing, acting, club swinging and rod twisting.
