Weatherwise, this will be nasty day for Melbourne. The top temperature is expected to be ten degrees with showers through the morning and afternoon, and possible thunderstorms. It will also possibly hail in the late-morning in Melbourne, and it will be windy.
Last night, commuters were been soaked with a heavy downpour during peak hour that turned city streets into "swimming pools".
The cold rain of almost 7 millimetres caused flash flooding in parts of South Melbourne and Mt Eliza. The SES removed fallen trees in Narre Warren, Donvale and Emerald.
It was snowing heavily at Mount Hotham all day and at Mount Buller from 5pm, but there has been snow around this high up all week. Buller staff expect below zero temperatures during the day this weekend and expected ten centimetres of snow overnight. Hotham got a big "windloaded" dump of 25 centimetres.
"The last couple of years have seen a good hit about this time," said Karl Grey of the Mount Hotham Skiing Company. "It is just getting it done in a week, not over three or four."
Today, the snow falls lower. It should snow in the Otway Ranges, the Dandenong Ranges, the Macedon Ranges, the Grampians and also even the Strzelecki Ranges in Gippsland. However severe weather warnings have been lifted.
In Melbourne, the MCG carpark will be closed this weekend due to the wet weather. It was also closed on the Queen's birthday weekend due to rain but ongoing wet weather had not allowed it to dry. The forecast for Saturday is lighter winds and less rain with a top of 13 degrees.
