Ware becomes just the fourth player in the Burras’ history to reach the milestone, joining Bill Pedretti, Peter Pedretti and Darren Elderfield, and it’s one that means a lot to the 30-year-old.
Ware has been at the club since the ripe age of 8, playing all his junior football at the club before rising through the ranks to eventually captain the senior team to a premiership throughout his 22 years at Hepburn.
The premiership captain said he was extremely proud to be a one-club player and sited the five premierships as the pinnacle of his career.
Ware was confident he still had plenty more football left in him and while the Hepburn Football Club games record, held by Darren Elderfield (319 games), isn’t something he thinks about – it is an honour to be talked about in the same conversation as other Burra greats.
After little success through his junior days, Ware enjoyed five flags in 2004, 05, 08, 10, 13, captaining two.
In amongst the team achievements, the Hepburn swingman said today’s clash would again be about the team despite the lofty occasion.
As he lines up against Smythesdale in his milestone match, Hep will be vying for their ninth win of the season and are firmly entrenched in the Central Highlands top four.
Giving Ware another opportunity to add to his achievements.
