The latest train timetable began on Sunday, June 26, putting an end to months of service disruptions and replacements for frustrated commuters.
Since January, the rail provider has been crippled by a wheel wear problem that resulted in a quarter of its VLocity fleet commissioned for urgent maintenance works.
Several interim timetables have been in place since, with hundreds of regional services either cancelled or replaced with buses.
The new timetable includes a much needed adjustment to prevent clashes between services from Ballarat and Geelong at the Deer Park west junction.
The adjustment was originally planned as part of the January 31 timetable, but deferred when wheel wear problems arose. It is expected to significantly improve punctuality on both lines.
Punctuality remains an issue on the Ballarat rail network, with trains reaching their destination within six minutes of scheduling only 83.4 per cent of the time during May – the lowest result in 10 months under the Regional Rail Link.
Timetables on the Ballarat line, including Ararat and Maryborough trains, can be found on the https://www.vline.com.au/Timetables/Additional-pages/Timetable-list website.
V/Line’s previous interim timetable, in place since April 26, saw two more weekday services reinstated as trains on the Ballarat line. Previously 72 out of 73 daily services were running as trains, with the final bus service now returned to rail.
