This time he returned to his home town as one of the mentors along side James Pattinson, John Hastings and Peter Handscomb.
Thomson admits it is weird to be standing in front of a group of young players, many of which he has played with and against throughout his Ballarat years, but he is rapt to have the program that served him so well tour the region that he grew up in.
“It is weird, last year I was sitting there listening to the big dogs as well … it was massive for me and my development,” Thomson said.
The 18-year-old admitted it was a daunting prospect to rub shoulders with the likes of James Pattinson but had enjoyed spending time with such talented players.
“It was a bit weird walking into the change rooms everyday with them. But they’re just normal people with extremely good talents.”
Thomson, who still lives in Ballarat, credited Regional Cricket Manager Campbell Waring as a huge part of his career and a great asset to the region.
“Cam Waring has been a massive part of my career so far. He had me in the system when I was 12.
“He’s been massive for me, the work that he puts in is huge.
“All of Central Highlands are very lucky to have him.”
The hand-picked group of 17 took part in a series of drills and coaching sessions throughout the first of the two-day program at St Patrick’s College – Thomson’s former school.
Former Australian player and current VicSpirit player Jess Cameron will join the clinic today as the 14 selected girls take part.
