Achison, who performs both solo and with the group Souldiggers, has an “infectious and inventive” blues style that has recently won him a host of awards.
The blues guitarist began playing music with his dad’s dance band at 13 years of age, before switching to bass at 15 as a jazz artist. Eventually, he discovered his true calling was American blues.
His album Box of Blues with Chris Wilson won the 2012 and 2013 VicTas blues awards. He was also named as one of the top 50 Australian guitarists in Australian Guitar magazine in 2012.
He’s also won trophies from the Australian Songwriters Association, the Chain’ Blues Awards and the Melbourne Blues Appreciation Society. Achison was named the society’s official patron back in 2011.
Inspired by legends such as Freddie King, Albert King, Buddy Guy, Stevie Ray Vaughan and Jeff Beck, Achison has recently returned from a tour of the USA and will perform new material from his forthcoming album, Another Mile, Another Minute.
Achison will perform this Saturday, July 16 at the Main Bar from 7.30pm. Tickets are $20.
