Lions president John Sanderson said while the club was still waiting for a definite handover date from Hume City Council, he was confident it would get the key in time for the last two home games of the BFL season on August 13 and 20.
He said the complex would be a great asset for male and female footballers, netballers and other recreation reserve users.
The McMahon Sports Pavilion will feature refurbished and expanded changerooms and amenities, new trainer and medical areas, netball change amenities, dual male and female umpires’ rooms, and a first floor multi-purpose room with kitchenette, public toilets and viewing balcony.
A refurbished grandstand will be in use for Saturday’s match against Redan.
Major functions will continue to be held in existing social rooms, where Collingwood football legend Peter Daicos will be guest speaker at a president’s luncheon on Saturday, following in the footsteps of cricketers Rodney Hogg and Dean Jones.
