About 10 per cent of the school’s pupils use the two-day program each week, which costs the school about $600 a year to run.
Mount Clear is one of four in Buninyong that will now receive state funding for their breakfast program, rounding the total number to nine.
Another five schools in Wendouree will also be supported.
“We’re not reliant on as many donations from our parent community and our staff, and it frees up our welfare budget to go back to other purposes within the program,” Mrs Kerton said.
One in seven pupils currently arrive at the school without having had breakfast, Member for Bunninyong Geoff Howard said.
“What we want to do is ensure all kids get to a good day at school, some kids come to school without having breakfast and that clearly sets them at a disadvantage.”
