When her friend passed away in 2007 following two cardiac arrests, she wanted to do something in his honour. And she wanted to help.
In 2008, she single-handedly started up the Making a Difference Gala Ball, raising money for Melbourne’s Royal Children’s Hospital, where her friend had spent much of his childhood.
Next Saturday, she will run her fourth ball – a glamorous event filled with glittering entertainment exquisite food, prizes and raffles.
“I lost my dad nearly three years ago to a massive cardiac arrest as well, and that was another reason I was determined to make it bigger, grander, and get the whole of Ballarat involved,” Mrs MacLean said.
“Last time I raised $35,000.”
The event will be held July 30 at Mercure Ballarat. Tickets are $120 and include a three-course meal.
