Ballarat college will play Trinity College Colac in the final as it looks to win its tenth shield in eleven years.
With the proposed date for the clash August two at Simonds Stadium, this being subject to change as AFL Victoria finalize its venues.
Colac is somewhat of an unknown for BCC having not played it before – normally facing off for the title with Emmanuel College, Warrnambool.
Co-coach Brad McGowan said the 19.11 (125) to 4.2 (26) was built off the side’s relentless pressure and ferocity around the contest.
McGowan, who took the reins alongside Shaun Maloney, said the midfield group was “dominant” as AFL number one draft prospect Hugh McCluggage led the way with a best on ground performance. Showcasing his class at the stoppage and kicking three goals from the midfield.
He was well supported by fellow North Ballarat Rebels’ Williem Drew and Ballarat Clarendon College’s captain Kyle O’Connor.
Cameron Ralph also impressed with three goals in attack while year nine student Sam Kyatt showed his football nous to kick four goals despite being one of the slightest built on the ground.
McGowan was confident the group could again go all the way.
“I feel like we’ve got a very talented group,” McGowan said.
“Colac will obviously go in confident too but we feel if we play like we did today we’ll be hard to beat.”
McGowan said the team would carry an extra sense of belief into the final given the winning culture developed at the school over the past decade.
He said the rich history certainly was of benefit and felt the comradery among the team had been a driving factor to the sides’ success.
He said two thirds of the team boarded together at the school which created a tight knit group on the field.
Ballarat Grammar Girls’ football team will travel to Geelong for its Herald Sun Shield semi-final as it takes on the top team from the Victorian Secondary Schools - Maribyrnong Secondary College.
It will play the winner of Methodist Ladies College and Billanook College in the grand final at Port Melbourne on August six.
