The national event is Australia’s largest open data hackathon and revolves around individuals and teams using government data sets to create new digital products – known as a hack – that has potential to generate public and private benefits.
Substantial cash prizes are awarded to those judged to have created hacks with the greatest potential, with most being new web and mobile applications or visualisations using government data sets.
Ballarat GovHack teams have rated highly in the first two editions, winning placing highly in various competitions.
A meet and greet for local hackers will take place on Thursday from 6pm-8pm at Ballarat Technology Park Central.
The event itself will run from July 29-31.
