TWELVE months ago, Colac’s Hannah Williams found out all her hard academic and community service work had paid off.
Last October the Trinity College student was awarded entry to the Australian Catholic University’s Early Achievers’ Program, guaranteeing her a spot at the Ballarat campus as long as she achieved the right VCE score.
Now 18, Hannah has nearly finished her first year in the Bachelor of Education course, and has urged current VCE students to take part in the Early Achievers’ Program, which focuses on academic and community service work.
“It’s a great opportunity to be selected and go to ACU,” Hanna said. “It’s a great university, it’s an amazing place to get an education.”
Hannah started her community work in 2009 as a social justice committee leader and has since volunteered with refugees, been to World Vision and St Vincent de Paul conferences, fund-raised for aboriginal rights, organised a Play for Pakistan concert and is now part of the Young Vinnies Group, taking young children on camps and day trips to places like Sovereign Hill.
“It’s always been in me to want to help others out.”
Applications for the ACU Early Achievers’ Program close on Sunday. Entries can be submitted online on the ACU website.
