Thursday was the inaugural Resilience Day for years seven and eight, with activities revolving around the project’s three key areas of gratitude, mindfulness and empathy. 

Student wellbeing leader Jodie Handley said these included tai chi, yoga, mindful eating, origami and a gratitude tree.

Guest speaker Shiree Pilkington also spoke about her work with refugees and migrants.

“We’re teaching them the tools and strategies so they are less likely to have mental health issues,” Ms Handley said. “The aim of the day is to teach them skills to enable them to flourish throughout their school years and into adulthood.”

Year seven students Miles Simshaw, Bridget Dyer and Charlotte Edgington said the yoga had taught them how to relax. “Big breaths calm my heart rate and clear the mind,” Miles said.
