Then head to Miners Rest Primary School’s musical playground, which also includes a tongue drum, bass pipes, treble pipes, cow bells, cymbals, paddle pipes and a conductor’s stand.
Performing arts teacher Megan Manson said the playground was funded by a Found Sounds Concert in conjunction with the Miners Rest Lions Club, which raised $4000. She said it was then built with a lot of tradie parent help.
“We didn’t have many musical instruments so we started from scratch and built a playground space that encourages musical play,” Ms Manson said.
It is colour coded so children of all ages can play the instruments without needing sheet music.
“I’ll be out on yard duty and the kids will come over and say ‘listen to the song I’ve created’.
“The area is constantly evolving and we’re always finding better ways to go about things.
“We wanted an accessible playground for all ages.”
