A man who was trapped for close to an hour is lucky to be alive after a serious collision on the Daylesford-Newstead Road just after 1pm on Friday.
The middle-aged man was trapped in his vehicle while CFA rescue staff worked to free him so he could be urgently treated by paramedics.
An Ambulance Victoria spokeswoman said the man was taken to Ballarat Health Services Base Hospital in a serious condition.
Daylesford police are still investigating the exact cause of single-vehicle the accident, however they believe the vehicle struck the guard rail before crossing onto the opposite side of the road and striking a rock.
VicRoads regional director Ewen Nevett said the harsh winter conditions made road conditions more dangerous, making it extra important for road users to remain vigilant.
