Melbourne Spring Fashion Week will hold its only regional runway event in the city over three days in September.
The Ballarat Fashion Series will celebrate the Western region’s contribution to the fashion world.
City of Ballarat mayor Des Hudson said it was a major coup for Ballarat.
“Our historic Mining Exchange makes the perfect backdrop for the runway shows and I know that Ballarat’s fashion sector is looking forward to the showcasing opportunities on offer,” he said.
“It will help us to continue positioning ourselves as the Capital of the West.”
Visit Ballarat CEO Noel Dempsey said the legacy left by high-calibre events such as this was long lasting.
“This is an opportunity to expand our market and keep proving great benefit to our local businesses,” he said.
The three-day event will showcase runway shows with lines created by celebrated designers from the region, as well as a wool industry retrospective and an artisan designer trunk sale.
Ballarat local and Logie winner, Gorgi Coghlan, has been named the face of the Ballarat Fashion Series.
“It didn’t take long for Ballarat to find a place in my heart after moving here. It’s a beautiful city with a great story to tell, but most excitingly it’s evolving and emerging as one of the greatest regional cities in Victoria,” she said.
The fashion series will be held from September 2-4. Tickets start from $20.
