City, which started the day fifth, is now percentage ahead of Redan and Sunbury.
Redan also had a convincing 55-point win over Sebastopol at Alfredton.
North Ballarat, Redan and Sunbury are each on 44 premiership points with three rounds to go. Redan has a bye in round 17, which provides a guaranteed four premiership points.
City mesmorised East Point, with Derrick Micallef the star performer with eight goals.
This takes him to 51 goals for the season and to the top of the BFL goalkickers' list.
North Ballarat was as impressive as East Point was disappointing.
The Kangaroos remain in the hunt for sixth, but they will have continue their battle to sneak into top six from ninth position and with a weakened percentage.
East Point is now eight points behind Melton (sixth) and Darley (seventh), and four points behind Ballarat, which climbed to eighth with a 103-point win over the winless Melton South at Melton.
The Kangaroos face the Swans next round, and last time they met Ballarat took the honours.
Just three games were played in the BFL, with all other teams having a bye.
