An elderly man struck by a van in Melbourne's north on Saturday has died in hospital overnight.

The 85-year-old man was crossing the road at the intersection of Sydney and Bakers roads in Coburg North about 6.35am Saturday morning when he was hit by a turning van.
A police spokesman said the Coburg North man was taken to hospital where he later died of his injuries.
The driver of the van stopped at the scene and was assisting police with their enquiries on Saturday.
