Tour of the Goldfields: Jacobs takes lead after VIS claims team time trial

LISA Jacobs is the new leader of the Tour of the Goldfields in Ballarat – the last leg of the National Road Women’s Cycling Series.

Jacobs claimed the frontrunning after her team VIS took out a 20km time trial at Burrumbeet this morning.

She began the day 23 seconds behind stage 1 (42km criterium) winner Ashlee Ankudinoff.

This all changed after Jacobs, Bridie O’Donnell and Jessica Allen took VIS across the line in 27 minutes, 43.7 seconds.

London Olympian Annette Edmondson, Taryn Heather and Jessica Mundy led SASI to second in 27:50.8.

Ankudinoff, Davina Summers and Lisa Keeling ensured Team Boss Constructions finished third in 28:45.3.

Jacobs is two seconds ahead of Edmondson going into this afternoon’s third stage, a 58km road race at Burrumbeet.

NRS leader Ruth Corset has some work to do in the remaining two road races today and tomorrow after dropping more than one minute off the pace.
