Called a Picasso Cow, the students are decorating it in a farm to plate theme to learn all about the stages of food production. 

Grade one and STEM teacher Emily Ellis said the students also made their own butter and milkshakes as part of the Dairy Australia program.

“One side is decorated in a farm to plate theme and the other side is Olympics,” Ms Ellis said.

As part of the program, schools must also complete a class learning journal that documents their program outcomes from start to finish.

Grade six pupils Laura and Jade were enjoying decorating the Picasso cow during The Courier’s visit, with Laura drawing a sun for an eye on one side and a moon on the other.

“It’s been a very good learning experience,” Jade said.

“We get to learn about how things work.”

Ms Ellis said some of the pupils thought dairy goods came straight from the supermarket, so it was good to educate them about the farming processes that came first.
