High-altitude areas are expected to be most affected, with parts of Victoria averaging strong northerly winds of 50-65km/h throughout the day.
The strongest gust today in Ballarat so far has been recorded at 65km/h.
The warning was also originally issued for the south-west and Wimmera districts, but has since been cancelled.
The State Emergency Service advises that people should:
* Move vehicles under cover or away from trees;
* Secure or put away loose items around your house, yard and balcony;
* Keep clear of fallen power lines;
The next warning is due to be issued by 10:30 am.
