THE reincarnation of Buninyong’s former Gold King Festival was carried out in glorious sunshine yesterday, with up to 4000 people attending the event.
The second annual Buninyong Good Life Festival was part of a bumper events weekend in the small community, which also held an open air concert performed by the local primary school, a farmer’s market and a fun run.
But the main event took place yesterday at the Uniting Church grounds, also spilling out onto the street.
Festival goers were able to enjoy dozens of stalls and activities, including an art exhibition, a book sale, bands and other entertainment, a toy sale and car cutting demonstrations by the local CFA.
“We tried to keep it non commercial, to maintain that nice country atmosphere which is what Buninyong is all about,” said Miranda Donald, president of the volunteer-run organising committee.
Ms Donald said that after the Gold King Festival didn’t run in 2010, she and a group of friends decided they needed to bring the best bits of the former festival back.
“We wanted to keep the essence of the old festival alive but make it more relevant to today, make it more contemporary,” she said.
