A Melbourne principal has denied claims his school suggested it was acceptable for girls to be harassed or abused because of what they wear.

Kambrya College triggered a social media storm last week after it allegedly asked students to stop wearing short skirts to "protect their integrity".
Girls received the warning at an assembly aimed at addressing cyber safety issues in the wake of the school being named on a pornographic website.
Principal Michael Muscat wrote to parents on Monday and said that there had been "misunderstandings" about the assembly.
"I want to be clear here and say that in no way did we suggest that what girls wear makes harassment or abuse acceptable. This is never the case," he said.
He said that the Berwick government school held separate boys and girls assemblies to inform students that they had not been implicated in a website which contained pornographic photos of Australian schoolgirls. Students were also asked to refrain from accessing or disseminating inappropriate content.
Mr Muscat said the assembly for girls also discussed the school's uniform policy.
"The enforcement of our uniform policy and the abuse and the recent exploitation of girls online are separate issues and should be treated as such," he said.
"In public discussion about these two issues at Kambrya College they have, however, become linked. We regret this. It was never our intention that this should occur."
Catherine Manning, who vented about the incident in a Facebook post that went viral, is meeting with the school council president on Wednesday to discuss the issue,.
"I was relieved that the school weren't treating me with contempt, it wasn't my intention to cause distress to anyone at the school but it was to raise awareness that as a society we have to do better."
Ms Manning said that girls were told that boys would be distracted by their legs, and should stop sending "sexy selfies" and wearing make-up.
Students have also spoken out, with 15-year-old Faith Sobotker sharing a speech on social media to protest against the message conveyed at the school assembly.
"You can't tell me what ladylike is because we don't live in the '50s any more. I am looking for equality," she said.
The school has contacted Victoria Police to arrange cyber safety presentations for students.
