Police were told the 54-year-old victim found an unknown man with a knife inside his Frankston home about 5.30pm on Saturday.

The 47-year-old alleged offender, also from Frankston, allegedly made threats towards the victim and then bound his arms, police said.

Investigators believe that the victim was then forced into the passenger seat of his own car, and the kidnapper drove them away from the property.

The stolen car was spotted driving erratically on Warrandyte Road, Langwarrin, and again near the intersection of Bevnol and Sunnybank roads, where it crashed into an embankment.

The police found the crashed car containing the alleged kidnapper and victim, who was found with his arms bound.

The driver was arrested and taken to Frankston Hospital with minor cuts and the victim was taken to hospital with head injuries.

The alleged perpetrator was charged with numerous offences including burglary, attempted rape, kidnapping, theft of a motor vehicle, recklessly causing serious injury and assault.

He was remanded to appear at Melbourne Magistrates Court on Tuesday.
