Olympic medalist Jared Tallent took questions from the floor at a visit to his old primary school on Monday, which included ‘how did the Russian person get disqualified?’ and ‘did you make any friends at the Olympics?’.
Tallent, who was taken off the track in a wheelchair after an exhausting race to the finish in the 50-kilometre walk in which he captured silver, will be after gold at the Tokyo Olympics in 2020.
Tallent was belatedly awarded gold for the event in London 2012 after Russian athlete Sergey Kirdyapkin was stripped of his medal for doping.
“I missed out on that moment in 2012 where I was only awarded the gold medal three-and-a-half years later so it will be nice to try and achieve it on the day and that will really drive me to Tokyo 2020,” he said.
