The Beaufort bollard is on trial. Pyrenees Shire is keen to know how much locals and tourists like him before considering adding some of Harry’s bollard friends about town.
Pyrenees Art Council member Anne Beer said the plan was to have themed bollards about town in key visitor spots, like a camping bollard family about to take a bush walk by a trail.
Ms Beer said the arts council did not want to copy Geelong and its renowned bollard collection, rather to be inspired by it.
Harry is a tribute to Harry Buncle, a long-serving Beaufort railway station master. Beaufort artist Kevin Kingwill sculpted Harry and the arts council painted him up.
Ms Beer urged people who liked Harry to let the shire know. Harry and more potential bollards are part of a plan to encourage visitors to spend more time in the town, just a short drive – or train trip – from Ballarat.
