Essendon Doutta Stars and former Sunbury star Simon Clarke was struck from behind after trying to break up a scuffle on August 6.
Clarke broke his jaw in three places and it is expected the 34-year-old will not play football again.
Cutting 27 weeks off the original ban sees Burke’s career suspension tally come to 15 games – one below the 16-game limit that would’ve seen him receive a life ban.
Both players played interleague football for the BFL during their time in the league.
