This will be the third time Melbourne United has made the trip and Ballarat Basketball also announced it will be joined by the Cairns Taipans.
Melbourne United will visit a number of schools around the region, engaging with the kids and running its “You Got Skooled” program.
The showpiece to the visit will be an exhibition game between Melbourne United and Cairns Taipans at the Minerdome on Saturday night.
Melbourne United players and Olympians David Anderson and Chris Goulding will make the trip to Ballarat to take-part in the two-day camp.
Andersen, 36, represented Australia for the fourth time at the Rio Olympics and has a wealth of international experience. While Goulding, 27, is a two-time All-NBL First Team (All-Stars) representative and made his first Olympic appearance at Rio this year.
Basketball Ballarat is hopeful of the experienced pair taking to the court.
“Melbourne United have not confirmed if either player will suit up on the night but having both players in town is a massive a draw card,” Basketball Ballarat’s Melissa Thomas said.
“Each time Melbourne has travelled to Ballarat they get involved with different schools and areas of our community and this year is no different with United attending Forest Street Primary School, Ballarat Specialist School and will be in attendance on junior grand final day.”
The Cairns Taipans will arrive in Ballarat on Friday afternoon and have confirmed that former-Ballarat Miner Anthony Fisher will make the trip.
Fisher played all his junior basketball in Ballarat and notched up 100 games for the Miners between 2011 and 2015.
He will return to his home town after a successful season with the Cairns Marlins - where it won the championship in the Queensland Basketball League.
This will be Fisher’s first time returning to the Minerdome since last year’s corresponding NBL exhibition clash.
“It will be great to have Anthony back in town, it is a great chance for the Miners fans and his family and friends to see him back on his home court.”
“It is unknown how many minutes Anthony will receive but I am sure when he steps on the court the home crowd will really get behind him.”
Tip-off is on Saturday 10 at 7pm at the Minerdome.
