Warrnambool and North finished first and second respectively at the end of the home-and-away season before playing off in a one-sided semi-final a fortnight ago.
A second half hattrick to league best and fairest winner Isobel Stewart secured the 4-1 result for Warrnambool, putting the minor premier directly into the final fixture of the year.
Despite their most recent result against Warrnambool, United will take confidence from their head-to-head record which includes one win and two draws for the season.
While reigning premiers United took the underdog tag into their 2015 grand final clash with Warrnambool, coach Jim Hocking said there was no clear favourite for the rematch.
“Going into the grand final this year there is definitely a different feeling about it,” Hocking said.
“Both teams are definitely capable of winning and the results throughout the year have shown that.”
While conceding the semi-final clash with Warrnambool was less-than ideal preparation, Hosking said he felt his charges would be able to respond in a positive fashion.
“We were pretty happy with the win on Sunday, particularly given that we went goal-for-goal before heading into extra time,” Hocking said.
“While the semi-final didn’t go as planned I still think there were moments where we showed we could play as well as they did.”
The women’s final will be the second last grand final for the day, kicking off at 5pm on Saturday at Morshead Park.
