Ballarat Foot and Ankle Clinic sports scientist Mitch Murray and North Ballarat Rebels strength and conditioning coach Leo Bell will attend the combine to help the draft hopefuls achieve optimum results as they are put through a rigorous testing process.
The combine is a crucial part of a draftee’s year and allows recruiters to evaluate in their physical traits. It also allows the rawer, less experienced players a chance to demonstrate their rare athletic abilities against more well-established footballers.
While the combine is all about the draftees, Mr Murray said it was an “opportunity” for Mr Bell and himself.
“At the end of the day it’s all about the players, and the focus is on getting them drafted. (But) it’s a pathway for us as well,” he said.
“Previously, I was the strength and conditioning coach at the Rebels. That’s now been taken over by Leo Bell and I guess both Leo and myself have been rewarded in the coaching side of things to represent at the combine.”
Mr Murray said that while his specific role isn’t yet confirmed, he will operate in a team leader capacity.
The combine runs from October 6-9.
