As scores of footygoers reported issues with securing tickets online, Dogs fans like Hayes, who chose to brave the cold and queue overnight, are now comfortably holding finals tickets.

Diehard fans were previously warned of "high demand" given  GWS' Spotless Stadium home in Sydney only seats around 24,000 people.

Bulldogs members fear they will be left without a ticket, given their club has approximately 40,000 members. Greater Western Sydney's membership, meanwhile, numbers around 16,000.

Ms Hayes witnessed Footscray's first premiership victory in 1954 when she was just 21 years old.

She and her daughter, Jackie Hall, lined up all night to make sure they could snare a ticket to their beloved team's clash with the Giants.

Ms Hall said she and her mother decided to line up after having issues buying tickets online in the past.

"I thought, 'I'm not going to try'," she said.

"That's why we went to the club. We braved the night. She did really well, it was worth it."

Sharon Morris is another Bulldogs fan who lined up all night to snare a ticket to Saturday's twilight preliminary final.

She arrived at Footscray's Whitten Oval around lunchtime on Sunday and set up camp with a few friends, scared the internet might let her down.

"I just wanted to make sure we had tickets in our hands," she said.

"We had Thermos and blankets. It's been quite fun, actually. The Bulldog supporters have all bonded and looked after each other."

Ms Morris, whose grandfather, 97-year-old Jim Miller, used to play for the club, says she wouldn't miss Saturday's game for the world.

She plans to fly to Sydney on Friday night with a group of friends.

"They're in with a chance," she said.

"You've got to be in it to win it."

Ms Carey's suspicion of potentially missing out on a ticket was reaffirmed on Monday, with AFL fans taking to social media to complain of difficulties in snapping up tickets online.

In particular, Swans and Cats fans were furious after reporting issues with Ticketek's website due to high-demand.

Footygoers have slammed Ticketek, arguing it should have known there would have been a flood of people keen to book tickets on Monday morning.

Ticketek has said it is looking into the website issue and is encouraging users to keep trying to buy their tickets until they are successful.

Bulldogs fans also reported issues buying online tickets through Ticketmaster.

The AFL, meanwhile, has defended the decision to hold Saturday evening's game at Spotless Stadium, pointing to more than 20 years of ticket sales that shows a maximum of 8000 people will travel to see their club battle it out interstate.

More than 87,000 fans turned up to watch the Dogs maul the Hawks last Friday night.

The Western Bulldogs have not played in a grand final since 1961, the longest wait for a grand final appearance for any club in AFL history.
