Matt Short has been appointed as vice-captain of the Cricket Australia XI that will compete in the domestic one-day competition this season.

The former St Patrick’s College student and East Ballarat product will serve alongside Western Australia batsman William Bosisto, who has been named skipper of the side.

Short, now 20-years-old, is one of five players in the squad that featured for the Cricket Australia XI last season.

Former Test batsman Brad Hodge will coach the team, which was introduced last year to give the nation’s brightest young talent a taste of top-class cricket.

The Cricket Australia XI will compete against the other states and territories in the Matador Cup.

Short and his teammates begin the tournament with a clash against Queensland on October 1 at Brisbane’s Allan Border Field.
